Executive Summery
This summer project report is done on the topic of “Impact of Internet in College student”. the data collected and presented in this project is primary as well as secondary in this report I studied about the impact o internet in college student by direct as well indirect connection with the students. In the initial phase I visited to the student to record the view of them and then internet service providers to fine out the number of customers and types of customers. After the collection of data I started to prepare the report.
In this report first phase includes the introduction, objectives, and literature review and research methodology. And second part includes the data analysis and presentation and final and third part includes the summery and conclusion. Findings, Suggestion and recommendation are included at the last.
During this project I have found that internet has great influence on the college student and most of the students are known to the internet and also regular user. Most of the student has positive view on toward the internet. It also found that internet help in fast finding of the topic of study and helpful in broaden of knowledge and skill. Internet is also the medium for entertainment and gain of new discovery. It is cheaper and faster medium for communication and sharing of information, and news. By using internet we can put the view about the like and dislike.
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
1.1. Back ground information
In present situation computers and internet is our essential part of our life and these two are closely associated with each other. The internet represent successful discovery of the technology science. By using this technology we can share all the information, news, video and soon. This is the effective medium for the communication by messaging, email, video call and so on. This is the medium for video gaming, getting fast and reliable worldwide news.
The internet in simple terms is a network of the interlinked computer networking worldwide, which is accessible to the general public. These interconnected computers work by transmitting data through a special type of packet switching which is known as the IP or the internet protocol.
Internet is such a huge network of several different interlinked networks relating to the business, government, academic, and even smaller domestic networks, therefore internet is known as the network of all the other networks. These networks enable the internet to be used for various important functions which include the several means of communications like the file transfer, the online chat and even the sharing of the documents and web sites on the WWW, or the World Wide Web.
It is always mistaken said that the internet and the World Wide Web are both the same terms, or are synonymous. Actually there is a very significant difference between the two which has to be clear to understand both the terms. The internet and World Wide Web are both the networks yet; the internet is the network of the several different computers which are connected through the linkage of the accessories like the copper wires, the fiber optics and even the latest wireless connections. However, the World Wide Web consists of the interlinked collection of the information and documents which are taken as the resource by the general public. These are then linked by the website URLs and the hyperlinks. Therefore World Wide Web is one of the services offered by the whole complicated and huge network of the internet.
The use of IP in the Internet is the integral part of the network, as they provide the services of the internet, through different layers organization through the IP data packets. There are other protocols that are the sub-classes of the IP itself, like the TCP, and the HTTP. “The Internet is at once a world-wide broadcasting capability, a mechanism for information dissemination, and a medium for collaboration and interaction between individuals and their computers without regard for geographic location.”
As the learning environment goes digital, virtual and Internet-based, good use of the Internet is a critical factor that determines students' academic success in the school. According to the latest survey reported by the China Internet Network Information Centre (2008), students are the largest group of Internet users in China. By December 2007, 28.8% of the two hundred and ten million Chinese Internet users are students. Representing one third of the Internet users in China, students' use of the Internet and its implications can hardly be ignored.
Dang is one of the largest valley in the Asia. It is located in the Rapti zone, Mid Western region of the Nepal. Among the five district of Rapti, Dang is more developed, facilities and geographically also accessible. The education system of this valley is quite good than other districts in Mid-Western development regions. Around 60% people are educated in this valley on which 40% are male and remaining 20% are female. For the purpose of study people from the neighboring district are also came. Among them Victoria International College and Gorkha School are one of the successful and superior educational institute conducted by Gorkha Educational Group. Colleges, plus two and schools included the computer course also. Some college also provided the internet facilities also in the college laboratory. For the further facility of the internet cyber café area available in sufficient quantities.
Here we can enjoy high facility than the others places in the Rapti zone. People of other four districts are migrated to Ghorahi Dang so it is multicultural place. Technology and other development are also high in this place. Internet phone service centers and Cybercafés are also numerous and seven internet service providers in Ghorahi. They are

1.4.Literature Review:
1.4.1. History
History of internet is as old as the history of computer. Development of internet is started with the development of computers in 1950s and 1960s. This began with point-to-point communication between mainframe computers and terminals, expanded to point-to-point connections between computers and then early research into packet switching. Packet switched networks such as ARPANET, Mark I at NPL in the UK, CYCLADES, Merit Network,
Professor Leonard Kleinrock with the first ARPANET Interface Message Processors at UCLA. Research into packet switching started in the early 1960s and packet switched networks such as ARPANET, Mark I at NPL in the UK, CYCLADES, Merit Network, Tymnet, and Telenet, were developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s using a variety of protocols. The ARPANET in particular led to the development of protocols for internetworking, where multiple separate networks could be joined together into a network of networks.
The first two nodes of what would become the ARPANET were interconnected between Leonard Kleinrock's Network Measurement Center at the UCLA's School of Engineering and Applied Science and Douglas Engelbart's NLS system at SRI International (SRI) in Menlo Park, California, on 29 October 1969. The third site on the ARPANET was the Culler-Fried Interactive Mathematics center at the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the fourth was the University of Utah Graphics Department. In an early sign of future growth, there were already fifteen sites connected to the young ARPANET by the end of 1971.
Early international collaborations on ARPANET were sparse. For various political reasons, European developers were concerned with developing the X.25 networks.HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet" Notable exceptions were the Norwegian Seismic Array (NORSAR) in 1972, followed in 1973 by Sweden with satellite links to the Tanum Earth Station and Peter Kirstein's research group in the UK, initially at the Institute of Computer Science, London University and later at University College London.
In 1982 the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) was standardized and the concept of a world-wide network of fully interconnected TCP/IP networks called the Internet was introduced. Access to the ARPANET was expanded in 1981 when the National Science Foundation (NSF) developed the Computer Science Network (CSNET). In December 1974, RFC 675 – Specification of Internet Transmission Control Program, by Vinton Cerf, Yogen Dalal, and Carl Sunshine, used the term internet, as a shorthand for internetworking; later RFCs repeat this use, so the word started out as an adjective rather than the noun it is today.
TCP/IP network access expanded again in 1986 when NSFNET provided access to supercomputer sites in the United States from research and education organizations, first at 56 kbit/s and later at 1.5 Mbit/s and 45 Mbit/s. Commercial internet service providers (ISPs) began to emerge in the late 1980s and 1990s. The ARPANET was decommissioned in 1990. The Internet was commercialized in 1995 when NSFNET was decommissioned, removing the last restrictions on the use of the Internet to carry commercial traffic. The Internet started a rapid expansion to Europe and Australia in the mid to late 1980s and to Asia in the late 1980s and early 1990s .
Since the mid-1990s the Internet has had a tremendous impact on culture and commerce, including the rise of near instant communication by electronic mail, instant messaging, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) "phone calls", two-way interactive video calls, and the World Wide Web with its discussion forums, blogs, social networking, and online shopping sites. Increasing amounts of data are transmitted at higher and higher speeds over fiber optic networks operating at 1-Gbit/s, 10-Gbit/s, or more. The Internet continues to grow, driven by ever greater amounts of online information and knowledge, commerce, entertainment and social networking.
During the late 1990s, it was estimated that traffic on the public Internet grew by 100 percent per year, while the mean annual growth in the number of Internet users was thought to be between 20% and 50%. This growth is often attributed to the lack of central administration, which allows organic growth of the network, as well as the non-proprietary open nature of the Internet protocols, which encourages vendor interoperability and prevents any one company from exerting too much control over the network. As of 31 March 2011, the estimated total number of Internet users was 2.095 billion (30.2% of world population). HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet" It is estimated that in 1993 the Internet carried only 1% of the information flowing through two-way telecommunication, by 2000 this figure had grown to 51%, and by 2007 more than 97% of all telecommunicated information was carried over the Internet.
1.4.2. History of internet in Nepal
Although through 2005 less than 1 percent of Nepal’s population used the internet, use of the Internet in Nepal is growing rapidly. This is the result of a competitive Internet service provider (ISP) market and low Internet access prices. Thirty-one private ISPs offer Internet access to businesses and consumers, though two, World link and Mercantile, dominate the market with a combined share of more than 70 percent. Cyber cafés are important sources of Internet access for Nepal’s; the country is believed to have the highest concentration of cybercafés in the world. Much of Nepal's Internet access is concentrated in the more-developed Katmandu Valley region. Although relatively few Nepalese presently get their news from the Internet, it has nevertheless become an important source of independent news in Nepal.
Nepal's legal system is in flux because of its unstable political landscape and its new constitution. The most recent collapse occurred in February 2005, when the king assumed control of the government and armed forces. Mass civilian protests followed, and he was forced to reinstate parliament and ultimately give up all official powers to the prime minister and parliament. The king required to suppress the independent media during his residence, passing the repressive Media Law, which prohibited criticism of the king and royal family and the broadcast of news over independent FM radio stations (an important source of independent news in the country). The Media Law also increased the penalties for offense tenfold. The law was repealed once parliament was restore.
In December 2006, seven political parties and the Maoists agreed on a new interim constitution that paves the way for the Maoists to join the political mainstream and nationalizes royal properties, leaving the fate of the kingdom up to a general election. The interim constitution guarantees certain social freedoms including freedom of speech and expression, freedom to protest, and freedom to establish a political party, among others. The constitution also guarantees the freedom to publish, including a specifically enumerated freedom to publish on the Internet. It advises, however, that those who publish information that causes social disturbance or criticizes others may be subject to punishment under relevant laws.
1.4.3. Use of internet
Internet is undoubtedly the most crucial technology of the modern world, the useful application has not only made our lives easier than ever before but it also plays a very important role in the future developments.
- Use in education: in education internet very useful tool. It helps in searching required materials for the study. Internet is also helps to make direct contact with the professors and expose the capacity to them.

Though the internet we can launch our new product or services worldwide at a single time. It helps to expand our business worldwide.
- Use in banking: banking is another application of internet. Today’s bank provides different facilities for the customers like ATM, E-banking, SMS banking and many other facilities which made easy and faster services of banking.
- ADSL : asymmetric digital subscriber line: a method of connecting a computer to the Internet that allows very fast exchange of information, and allows you to be connected at all times without having to pay any extra money
- Even professionals like doctors, engineers and layers are use internet for the collection of information.
- In present days internet is used as encyclopidia in every sector, every field.
- In present daysn it is also proved as useful in kitchen for housewives. Different kinds of national international recepies can be found with their cooking procesures.
1.4.2. Impact of internet:
We all know that each and every scientific investigation has both positive and negative impact in human life same as internet also has both of effects in our life.
Positive impact:
It is the great scientific investigation that made our life easier and faster. It is the advanced technology that we can’t avoid in resent context.
- It made easy to communicate and chat with friends.
- Students can prepare online course, provides electronic library and also made possible to confessing with the student worldwide.
- By using internet we can learn books in fewer prices.
- Internet also helps in business by making easy to sending purchase order, E-banking and also by making reliable evidence to believe on client.
- Distance learning, video confessing and instant messaging are also possible due to the internet.
Negative impact:
We all know that each and every scientific investigation has negative impact also. So it also has some cones.
- Internet reduces the face to face conversation power of human being.
- It may cause leakage of information.
- It also causes violation of privacy.
- It causes the distraction from the family members and relatives.
- It also reduces the touch with the natural environment.
- It also made easy to terrorist to communicate and prepare plan.
- It can cause a serious disease internet addiction. Surfing may not be enough like as drug.
- It can invite internet crime. Now a day’s online crime is in increasing rate.
Suggestion for overcoming negative impact:
- Time for the internet use should be managed.
- Parents should take care about their child what they are doing in internet and also limit the time frame for the internet use.
- Over surfing of internet should be avoided.
- We should not take internet as friend of loneliness.
1.5. Method of research
To obtain relevant qualitative and quantitative data, the following methodology was employed. The different tools and techniques were used in the data collection and the analysis of various information’s. This study is based on an appropriate research methodology. It helps to analyze the data in finding the causes and effects of relationships between students and internet.
1.5.1.Sampling:
Sampling is one of the major and important steps of the research process. To met the time limitation of the study random sampling process used.
1.5.2.Source of information
For the effectiveness of the report I used both primary and secondary data sources
Primary source:-
Primary data are those data which are originally collected by the researcher for the specific research purpose. These data are collected through the field visit with appropriate questioner. These questions are asked to the selected sample students.
Secondary source of data:-
Secondary data is also secondary data because the sources of data’s are accurate. In this data, data have been subjected to interpretation; they are referred to as coming from secondary resources. These are provided and collected from the internet service providers of the Ghorahi.
1.5.3.Research design
A Research Design is purely and simply of the framework or plan of study that guides the collection and analysis of data. Research design is the plan structure and strategy of investigation conceived as to obtain answer to research question and to control variances. For the appropriateness of the study descriptive and creational research design is applied.
1.5.4.Data Processing:
The collected data are processed for analysis and interpretation. In course of that, all the analyzed data are classified, tabulated and presented in various forms like table, bar diagrams, pie charts etc.
